Your Home Doesn't Have to Be Perfect. Your Photographs Can Still Be Beautiful.
You don't need a magazine-worthy home to have beautiful newborn photographs.
One of the biggest worries parents have when considering an in-home newborn photoshoot is whether their house is good enough.
Maybe your lounge feels too small, the bedrooms are cluttered, or the lighting isn't particularly good.
Perhaps you're looking around at the washing, baby supplies and everyday family life, wondering how on earth a professional photography session could happen there.
The lovely thing is that your home doesn't need to be huge, spotless or beautifully styled.
I bring my professional newborn photography setup to you. That means I can create polished, studio-style newborn portraits in your own home without relying on your furniture or décor to become the backdrop.
I Don't Need Your Whole House
For most in-home newborn sessions, I only need one suitable area where I can safely set up my equipment.
That might be part of your lounge, dining room or another open space.
I bring my newborn posing setup, professional lighting, selected wraps, fabrics and props with me.
So I'm not depending on your furniture, home styling or natural light to create the finished photographs.
I've photographed newborns in all kinds of spaces. Sometimes we shift a little furniture or use a different corner of the room than expected. I simply work out the safest and most practical place to set up.
And you certainly don't need to spend the day before your session deep-cleaning every room in the house!
Here's What My Setup Looks Like in a Real Family Home
It might not look like a photography studio while I'm working, but the finished portraits tell a very different story.
And This Is What the Camera Sees
The professional lighting, carefully chosen fabrics, styling and posing transform a small area of an ordinary home into a beautiful newborn portrait.
You don't see the lighting stand, the furniture or the equipment surrounding my setup.
You simply see your beautiful baby.
From Behind the Scenes to a Finished Newborn Portrait
The photograph below was created in the very same home you've just seen above.
What About Clutter?
Please don't feel that your home needs to look perfectly styled before I arrive.
You've just had a baby.
There might be bottles on the bench, washing waiting to be folded, nappies nearby or toys scattered around from older siblings.
That's real life, and I completely understand.
For the posed newborn portion of your session, most of that won't appear in your photographs because I'm creating the setup myself.
If we're also including photographs around your home, we can simply move a few things out of the immediate area before we begin.
You have enough to think about with a new baby. Getting your entire house ready for photographs shouldn't be another thing on your list.
Do I Need Lots of Natural Light?
No, not for my posed in-home newborn photographs.
This is one of the reasons my in-home newborn sessions work so well.
I bring professional lighting with me, so I'm not dependent on enormous windows or beautiful natural light throughout your home.
Even if your home is darker, the weather is gloomy or the room we're using doesn't have ideal window light, I can still create clean, beautifully lit newborn portraits.
A Darker Room Can Still Create Beautiful Photographs
This short behind-the-scenes video shows the lighting and posing area during a real in-home newborn session.
And Here's the Result From That Same Darker Room
This is why I love being able to bring professional lighting into my clients' homes.
The room doesn't need to look anything like a studio. With the right setup, the finished photograph can still be beautifully polished.
What If I Want Lifestyle Photographs Too?
If you love the relaxed look of cuddles on the bed, sibling interactions or family photographs around your home, these can also be incorporated into a suitable in-home collection.
For these photographs, I'll look for areas with flattering available light and a background that photographs nicely.
Sometimes all we need is one corner of a bedroom, a section of the lounge or a simple neutral wall.
Small adjustments can make a big difference through the camera.
My Signature and Legacy In-Home Newborn Collections also offer the option to photograph baby at home first, then complete your family photographs at my Drury studio around two to four weeks later.
It's a lovely option if you'd prefer a little more time to recover, get everyone organised or enjoy a different style for your family portraits.
Photographs of the People Who Matter Most
Whether you choose photographs at home or in my studio, the most important part is capturing your family together.
Your Home Is Part of Your Story
There's something incredibly special about having photographs created in the place where you brought your baby home.
Even if your home doesn't feel particularly glamorous right now, it's the setting for some of your family's earliest memories.
Years from now, little details that feel ordinary today may become surprisingly meaningful.
But if you prefer beautifully posed, studio-style newborn portraits, your home doesn't need to feature prominently at all.
That's one of the things I love most about offering in-home newborn photography.
The comfort and convenience of being at home, with the quality and styling of professionally posed newborn photography.
You Don't Need to Prepare a Perfect Space
Before your session, I may suggest having one area reasonably clear so there's room for my equipment.
That's really all you need to worry about when it comes to preparing your home.
No Perfect Nursery Required
Your baby's room doesn't need to be beautifully decorated or completely finished.
No Designer Furniture Needed
I bring the posing equipment, lighting and selected styling needed for the newborn portraits.
No Huge Rooms Necessary
One suitable area is often enough to create beautiful photographs.
No Spotless House Expected
You have a newborn. Everyday family life is completely normal.
Why Families Love In-Home Newborn Photography
One of the biggest benefits of an in-home newborn session is that you don't have to pack up your brand-new baby and bring half the house with you.
I come to you.
Everything your baby might need is already close by. You can feed comfortably in your own space, older siblings can take breaks when needed, and the whole experience can feel much more relaxed during those early newborn weeks.
My professionally posed in-home newborn sessions generally take approximately two to two and a half hours, allowing time for your baby's individual needs.
In-Home Newborn Photography FAQs
Do You Bring Everything With You?
I bring my professional lighting, newborn posing equipment and a carefully selected range of wraps, fabrics and props. We'll discuss your styling preferences before your session.
What If My Home Is Dark?
That isn't a problem for the posed newborn photographs. I use professional lighting rather than relying entirely on natural window light.
Do I Need to Clean My Whole House?
Absolutely not. Having a suitable area available for my equipment is much more important than having every room spotless.
Can We Include Parents and Siblings?
Yes, my Signature and Legacy collections include the option for family photographs. You can also choose my split-session experience.
