Is an In-Home Newborn Session Easier?
Is an In-Home Newborn Session Easier?
Imagine beautiful, professionally posed newborn photographs without having to pack the car, organise the whole family or leave the comfort of your own home.
For many new parents, the thought of travelling to a photography studio with a brand-new baby can feel a little overwhelming.
Between feeding, changing, settling and getting everyone ready, even a short outing can require quite a bit of planning.
That's one of the reasons I offer professionally posed newborn photography in the comfort of your Auckland home.
I bring my professional lighting, posing equipment, wraps and selected props to you, creating beautifully styled newborn portraits without you needing to travel.
So, is an in-home newborn session easier? For many families, it absolutely can be.
You can enjoy the beautiful posed newborn photography you love, with the convenience of staying in familiar surroundings during those precious early weeks.
No Need to Pack Everything & Leave the House
One of the biggest advantages of an in-home newborn photography session is that you don't need to prepare for an outing with your baby.
There's no need to pack a changing bag for the day, load the car or worry about getting everyone out of the house at a particular time.
Your baby's nappies, feeding supplies, spare clothes and everything else you might need are already close by.
And if your baby needs an extra feed or cuddle, you're in your own comfortable surroundings.
For parents recovering from birth, this convenience can make a lovely difference.
No Travelling
There's no need to load the car or travel to a photography studio with your newborn.
Baby's Essentials
Feeding supplies, nappies and spare clothes are all within easy reach when you need them.
Familiar Comfort
You can relax in your own home while I create beautiful photographs of your little one.
Your Baby's Routine Comes First
Newborn babies don't follow a photographer's schedule, and I never expect them to.
Some babies settle quickly and sleep peacefully, while others need more feeding, cuddles or time to relax.
My newborn sessions are baby-led, which means I adapt the photography to your little one's comfort and needs.
At home, parents often feel more relaxed because everything is familiar and within reach.
We can pause for feeding, changing and settling as needed, without you feeling like you have to rush your baby.
There's No Need to Keep Your Baby Awake Beforehand
Please follow your baby's usual feeding and sleeping cues before your session.
Keeping a newborn awake in the hope they'll sleep during their photographs can sometimes leave them overtired and more difficult to settle.
Instead, let your baby follow their natural routine and I'll work around them.
A beautiful newborn session should work around your baby, not the other way around.
Yes, You Can Have Fully Posed Newborn Photographs at Home
One of the biggest misconceptions about in-home newborn photography is that it only involves natural lifestyle photographs on the couch or in the nursery.
That's not the type of newborn photography I specialise in when I visit your home.
I bring a professional newborn posing setup directly to you, along with my lighting, wraps, selected props and fabrics.
This allows me to create carefully posed newborn portraits with the same attention to lighting, positioning and styling that you'd expect from a professional studio.
Your baby can be photographed in beautiful wraps, with carefully chosen props and in those classic newborn poses that families love, always depending on your baby's comfort.
And if your collection includes family photographs, I can also create lovely images with parents and siblings.
I bring the equipment and create the setups. You don't need a beautiful nursery, a perfectly styled living room or a home that looks like a photography studio.
Please Don't Worry About Cleaning the Whole House
This is something I always want new parents to know.
Your home doesn't need to be spotless or beautifully decorated for me to create professional newborn photographs.
I'm not coming to photograph your house. I'm coming to photograph your baby.
Because I bring my own professional lighting and newborn posing equipment, I can create a dedicated photography area within a suitable space in your home.
All I generally need is enough room to safely set up my equipment and work comfortably.
There's absolutely no need to spend the day before your session cleaning every room.
The most important thing in your photographs is your beautiful baby, not what your house looks like.
In-Home Sessions Can Be Lovely for Siblings Too
If you have older children, staying at home can make the experience easier for the whole family.
Your children are in familiar surroundings, with their toys, snacks and favourite activities nearby.
They don't need to sit quietly in an unfamiliar studio while I photograph their new baby brother or sister.
For family-inclusive in-home collections, I generally photograph siblings towards the end of the session, so they aren't expected to participate for the entire time.
This can make the experience feel more relaxed for everyone.
Want Your Family Photographs Taken in the Studio Instead?
My Signature and Legacy in-home newborn collections also offer a split-session option.
I photograph your baby at home first, then you can return to my Drury studio approximately two to four weeks later for the family photographs.
It's a lovely option if you'd prefer to recover and settle into life with your newborn before getting everyone ready for family portraits.
Which Newborn Photography Experience Is Right for You?
Every family is different, and there isn't one newborn photography experience that suits everyone.
Some parents love the convenience of having beautifully posed newborn photographs taken at home. Others prefer a shorter wrapped studio session, while some are drawn to the natural connection and relaxed feel of lifestyle photography.
That's why I offer three different newborn photography experiences in Auckland, each with its own beautiful approach.

What Do You Need to Prepare for an In-Home Newborn Session?
Very little, which is part of the beauty of having your newborn photographs taken at home.
I'll bring the professional equipment, lighting and styling items needed for your planned newborn setups.
You'll just need to provide a suitable clear space for the equipment and have your baby's usual feeding and changing essentials nearby.
For in-home sessions, I bring a carefully selected range of two to three props and up to three posing fabrics.
If you have specific colour, prop or posing preferences, please send them at least 48 hours before your session so I can plan accordingly.
I generally keep baby outfit changes to a minimum, as repeated changes can unsettle little ones and reduce the time available for photographs.
My aim is to create a beautiful variety while keeping your baby comfortable throughout the experience.

For many families, yes. You don't need to travel with your baby, pack the car or leave your familiar surroundings during those early newborn weeks.
Can You Do Proper Posed Newborn Photos at Home?
Absolutely. I bring professional lighting, newborn posing equipment, wraps and selected props to create beautifully styled posed portraits in your home.
Does My House Need to Be Tidy?
No. You don't need a perfectly styled home. I just need a suitable space to set up my professional photography equipment.
Can Parents and Siblings Be Photographed Too?
Yes. Family photographs are included in my Signature and Legacy in-home newborn collections. My Essential collection is baby-only.
What If My Baby Needs Feeding During the Session?
That's completely normal. My sessions are baby-led, and we can pause for feeding, changing and settling whenever needed.

Yes. I'm based in Drury, South Auckland, and offer professionally posed in-home newborn photography for families throughout Auckland.
What Is the Difference Between Posed and Guided Lifestyle Photography?

Can I Have a Shorter Newborn Session Instead?
Yes. My in-studio wrapped newborn collections are a lovely shorter option, with sessions starting from $300.
Enjoy Beautiful Newborn Portraits Without Leaving Home
Those first few weeks with your newborn are precious, but they can also feel busy and overwhelming.
Having your photographs taken at home means one less outing to organise while still enjoying a professional newborn photography experience.
I'll bring the equipment, create the setups and guide the session around your baby's needs.
You can relax in your own surroundings, enjoy those lovely newborn cuddles and let me take care of creating the photographs.
And if you'd prefer to visit my studio instead, my wrapped newborn and Guided Lifestyle sessions offer two beautiful alternatives.
Whichever experience you choose, the aim is the same: to create timeless photographs you'll treasure as your little one grows.
All the beauty of professional newborn photography, with an experience that feels right for your family.
