How Long Does a Newborn Session Take?
One of the most common questions parents ask before booking is:
“How long does a newborn session take?”
The answer depends on the style of session and how baby is settling on the day.
As an Auckland newborn photographer, my sessions are always baby-led, meaning plenty of time is allowed for feeding and settling throughout the session.
Every Baby Is Different
Some babies sleep deeply throughout their entire session, while others may need extra comfort and soothing.
Newborn sessions are intentionally relaxed to avoid rushing baby.
Wrapped Mini Sessions
Wrapped mini sessions are usually shorter and generally last around 30 minutes.
These sessions focus on:
wrapped posing
baby-only images
simple setups
Full Newborn Sessions
Full newborn sessions are usually around 1-2 hours depending on:
feeding
settling
sibling participation
outfit changes
session style
Family and sibling images can also add additional time to the session.
Why Sessions Cannot Be Rushed
Newborn photography requires patience.
Rushing a newborn session often creates unnecessary stress for both parents and baby.
Allowing extra time helps create a much calmer experience and better final images.
At Racheal Trail Photography, newborn sessions are designed to feel calm, flexible, and fully guided so parents can simply relax and enjoy the experience.
