What’s Included in My Maternity Client Wardrobe?

One of the things many mums worry about before booking maternity photos is what they are going to wear. The good news is that you do not need to go out and buy several outfits just for your session. My maternity clients have access to a carefully selected wardrobe of gowns, fitted dresses and more relaxed pieces designed to photograph beautifully and give you variety throughout your gallery.

Do I Need to Bring My Own Maternity Outfits?

No. You are very welcome to bring something of your own if there is a particular outfit you love, but you do not need to arrive with a complete maternity wardrobe. I have a range of pieces available for clients to use, and we can choose the styles that best suit the type of photographs you want to create.

What Types of Maternity Outfits Are Available?

My client wardrobe includes a mixture of formal maternity gowns, fitted dresses, flowing fabrics and softer lifestyle pieces. Some create a more dramatic editorial look, while others are simple, relaxed and natural. Having different styles available means your session does not have to look the same from beginning to end.

Formal Maternity Gowns

For clients who love a more glamorous maternity look, I have a selection of gowns designed specifically to highlight your bump and create elegant portraits. These can include fitted silhouettes, flowing skirts, off-the-shoulder designs and statement pieces that work particularly well with studio lighting and more posed photographs.

Relaxed and Lifestyle Maternity Dresses

Not every maternity photograph needs to feel formal. I also have more relaxed wardrobe options including neutral knits, fitted dresses and softer everyday styles that work beautifully in my lifestyle studio setup or for a more natural maternity look. These are ideal if you want photographs that feel warm, comfortable and a little less posed.

Neutral Colours and Textures

A large part of my wardrobe is built around soft, neutral colours because they photograph beautifully and keep the attention on you and your bump. Cream, beige, camel, brown and other natural tones work particularly well with my studio, lifestyle and outdoor setups. Texture also adds interest, so knitted fabrics, ribbed materials and flowing fabrics can create very different looks even when the colours are similar.

Can I Wear More Than One Outfit?

Yes. The number of outfit changes depends on the maternity collection you have booked, but having multiple wardrobe options allows us to create variety within the same session. You might choose something elegant and dramatic for one set of photographs, then change into a relaxed knit or fitted dress for a completely different feel.

How Do We Choose Which Outfits to Use?

You do not need to decide everything before you arrive. At the beginning of your session we can look through the wardrobe together and choose the pieces that suit your style, the backdrops we are using and the overall look you would like. I can also help guide you towards colours and shapes that will photograph beautifully.

What If I Am Unsure What Will Suit Me?

That is completely normal. Maternity clothing can look very different on the hanger compared with how it photographs once it is fitted around a bump. I will help you choose pieces that work with your shape and the type of photographs we are creating, so you do not need to know exactly what will suit you beforehand.

What Sizes Are Available?

Many maternity gowns and dresses are designed with stretch, adjustable fabrics or open styles so they can comfortably fit a range of body shapes and sizes. My wardrobe continues to grow over time, and I deliberately choose pieces that can work for more than one body type wherever possible.

Can I Bring My Own Outfit Too?

Absolutely. If you have a favourite dress, a special piece of clothing or simply something that feels very much like you, bring it along. Some clients love combining pieces from my wardrobe with one personal outfit of their own, which can make the final gallery feel even more individual.

What About Partners and Children?

If your partner or children are joining your maternity session, I recommend coordinating their clothing with the colours you choose rather than matching exactly. Neutral tones, simple shirts, knits, denim and earthy colours usually work beautifully alongside the maternity wardrobe and help keep the whole gallery cohesive.

Which Outfits Work Best for Studio Maternity Photos?

Studio maternity photography gives us the opportunity to use more structured or dramatic pieces because lighting and backdrops can be controlled. Fitted gowns, flowing fabrics and statement dresses can all create beautiful studio portraits, while simple neutral pieces can create a softer and more minimalist look.

Which Outfits Work Best for Lifestyle Maternity Photos?

For relaxed lifestyle photographs, softer clothing often works best. Knitted dresses, simple fitted pieces, neutral textures and more casual styling can make the photographs feel intimate and natural while still looking polished. These pieces work beautifully with the bed, chair and natural-light areas of the studio.

Which Outfits Work Best Outdoors?

Outdoor maternity photographs often suit flowing fabrics, warm neutral colours and pieces that move naturally. Depending on the location and weather, we can choose a dress that complements the environment while still keeping you comfortable and allowing your bump to remain the focus.

Behind the Scenes of the Maternity Wardrobe

I will be adding a closer look at some of the maternity wardrobe options here, including both formal gowns and the newer relaxed lifestyle pieces. Seeing the clothing on its own and then seeing the finished photographs created with it is a great way to understand how different each piece can look once photographed.

You Do Not Need to Have Everything Figured Out Before Your Session

One of the benefits of having access to a maternity client wardrobe is that you can arrive without the pressure of buying multiple outfits or trying to plan every detail yourself. We can choose the pieces together and create a mixture of looks that still feel like you.
