Some of the smallest details in my newborn photographs are the ones that have taken the most time and care to create.

What you might not realise is that many of these pieces have been lovingly handmade by me.
Alongside photographing newborns, I genuinely enjoy creating the little accessories that help bring my images together.

There's something special about being able to create an accessory with a particular photograph in mind.
Rather than relying entirely on ready-made props, knitting allows me to choose the colours, textures and finishes that work beautifully with my styling.
I can create soft, understated pieces that complement a newborn's delicate features without overpowering the photograph.
Some pieces take considerably longer to make than you might imagine, especially when working with fine yarn and tiny details.
But I love knowing that something I've made with my own hands becomes part of a family's precious memories.

When I'm choosing yarn for a newborn hat or wrap, I think about much more than how it will look in a photograph.
The texture needs to feel gentle, the design needs to suit a tiny newborn, and the finished piece needs to work comfortably with the poses I create.
I particularly love soft, natural-looking textures and understated colours. Cream, oatmeal, beige, taupe and other gentle tones allow your baby to remain the focus of the photograph.
Rather than using lots of bright colours or elaborate accessories, I prefer styling that will still look beautiful many years from now.

Every newborn is different, so I select accessories according to what suits the baby and the setup we're creating.
Some babies look gorgeous in a little knitted bonnet. Others photograph beautifully with a simple wrap and no accessories at all.
I never want the styling to take attention away from those delicate eyelashes, tiny fingers and beautiful little expressions.
And, of course, comfort comes first. An accessory is only used when it's suitable for the baby and the photograph we're creating.

At my private studio in Drury, South Auckland, I have my newborn accessories and styling pieces available for the sessions I offer there.
For professionally posed in-home newborn sessions, I bring a carefully selected range of wraps, fabrics and props directly to your home.
Because I can't transport my entire collection, I ask families to share any particular colour or styling preferences at least 48 hours before an in-home session.
That gives me the opportunity to plan which pieces to bring and how they might work together.
Whether I use a handmade bonnet, a delicate knitted wrap or a beautifully simple setup, my aim is the same: timeless photographs that celebrate your baby's tiny features and precious first weeks.

Do You Really Knit the Hats & Wraps Yourself?
Yes! Many of the knitted hats, bonnets and wraps you see in my newborn photographs have been handmade by me. I also use other carefully selected accessories to complete my setups.
Can I Choose the Colours for My Baby's Session?
I'm happy to discuss your preferences. For in-home sessions, please send any specific colour or prop requests at least 48 hours beforehand, as I bring a limited selection with me.
Do I Need to Buy My Own Newborn Accessories?
No. I provide the wraps, styling items and selected accessories needed for the newborn setups we plan together.
Are Handmade Accessories Included in Every Photograph?
Not necessarily. I choose accessories according to your baby, the pose and the overall styling. Sometimes the most beautiful photographs are the simplest ones.
