Absolutely. Some of the most beautiful newborn photographs are the ones that capture the very beginning of a lifelong bond between brothers and sisters.
Welcoming a new baby is a special moment for the entire family, not just the parents.
For an older brother or sister, it marks the beginning of a completely new relationship, one filled with curiosity, affection and sometimes a little uncertainty.
Including siblings in your newborn photographs is a lovely way to remember those early days together.

There's something incredibly beautiful about seeing an older child with their brand-new baby brother or sister.

Your Older Child Doesn't Need to Sit Perfectly Still
One of the biggest worries parents have is whether their toddler or older child will cooperate during the photographs.
Please don't worry about that.
I've photographed many families with young children, and I know that expecting a toddler to sit perfectly still and smile on command isn't always realistic.
Instead, I gently guide the photographs according to your child's age, confidence and willingness to participate.
Some children are delighted to be photographed with their new sibling. Others need a little encouragement or time to become comfortable.
And occasionally, we need to change the plan entirely.
That's all part of working with young children.
Safety Always Comes First
Not every sibling photograph requires an older child to hold the newborn.
Depending on your child's age and confidence, I may position the baby safely beside them, have a parent support the newborn or create a different arrangement that feels comfortable for everyone.
Young children are never expected to hold or support a newborn without appropriate adult assistance.
How I Make Sibling Photographs Easier
My approach is to keep the experience as relaxed and positive as possible.
Young children often respond better when they don't feel pressured to perform, so I keep the instructions simple and adapt to their mood on the day.
Here are a few things that can make a lovely difference.
Talk About the Session
Let your child know they'll have some lovely photographs taken with their new baby brother or sister. Keep the conversation light and encouraging.
Let Them Be Themselves
Avoid repeatedly asking your child to smile or behave perfectly. Gentle encouragement usually works better than pressure.
Have Snacks Handy
A little snack, drink or favourite comfort item can be helpful, especially for younger children who may need a break.
Choose Comfortable Clothing
Soft, comfortable outfits that allow your child to move naturally can make the photography experience easier.
The loveliest sibling photographs often happen when children are allowed to relax and simply be themselves.
When Do I Photograph Siblings During a Newborn Session?
For my professionally posed in-home newborn sessions, I generally photograph your baby first and bring siblings into the photographs towards the end.
This means your older children don't need to sit around waiting while I work through the baby's individual portraits.
They can play, have snacks or continue with their usual activities until it's time for their photographs.
For studio wrapped and Guided Lifestyle sessions, I plan the family photographs according to the collection and how your children are settling.
My aim is always to keep the experience manageable and enjoyable for everyone.
By planning family photographs thoughtfully, I can focus on creating beautiful baby portraits while keeping the time your older children need to participate as short and comfortable as possible.
Coordinating Outfits for Beautiful Sibling Photographs
Choosing outfits for siblings and family photographs doesn't need to be complicated.
I love soft, neutral and gently muted colours because they photograph beautifully and keep the attention on your family rather than bright patterns or distracting logos.
Rather than dressing everyone in exactly the same colour, choose two or three complementary shades and build your outfits around them.

What If Your Toddler Isn't Ready for Family Photographs Yet?
This is one of the reasons I offer my split newborn session option.
With my Signature and Legacy in-home newborn collections, I can photograph your baby at home first, then welcome you to my Drury studio approximately two to four weeks later for the family portraits.
The baby-only in-home portion generally takes around two hours.
By the time you return for the family photographs, you may feel more settled after the birth, and your older children have had a little more time to adjust to their new sibling.
It also means there's no pressure to get everyone dressed and ready for family photographs during those very early newborn days.

What If My Toddler Won't Cooperate?
That's completely normal. I keep the experience relaxed, allow breaks where possible and adjust the photographs rather than forcing children to participate.
Can Siblings Hold the Newborn Baby?
This depends on the child's age, confidence and ability. Safety always comes first, and I can create beautiful sibling portraits without expecting a young child to hold the baby independently.
Are Siblings Included in the Wrapped Mini?
No. Wrapped Mini is a baby-only collection. Wrapped Full and Wrapped Full Plus both include family photographs.
Can We Do Sibling Photos on a Different Day?
Yes. My Signature and Legacy in-home newborn collections offer a split-session option, with baby's portraits at home first and family photographs in the studio approximately two to four weeks later.
