Expecting twins is an incredibly exciting experience, but it also comes with twice the preparation.
Two car seats, two sets of baby clothes, twice the nappies and a whole lot of planning before your little ones arrive.
So it's understandable that parents expecting twins often ask whether professional newborn photography will cost more.
At Racheal Trail Photography, I have a very simple answer.
Whether you're welcoming one baby or two, I don't charge an additional twin fee for your newborn photography session.
I believe both of your beautiful babies deserve to have their earliest memories captured without an extra charge simply because they arrived together.
Why Don't I Charge More for Twin Newborn Photography?
As a mum myself, I understand just how many expenses come with welcoming a new baby.
And when you're expecting twins, many of those expenses are doubled before your babies even arrive.
I've chosen not to add a twin surcharge to my newborn photography collections.
My pricing is based on the photography collection you choose, rather than charging an additional fee for a second baby.
What Does This Mean for Your Collection?
You can choose from my available newborn photography collections without paying an additional twin photography fee.
Each collection has its own inclusions, including the number of professionally edited photographs and whether parents and siblings are included.
The included image count applies to your chosen collection, whether we're photographing one baby or two.

Can Twins Be Photographed Together?
Absolutely, when both babies are comfortable and the positioning is suitable.
One of the most beautiful things about twin newborn photography is capturing the connection between your two little ones.
Their tiny features, the way they lie beside each other and those beautiful moments of closeness make such special photographs.

I love creating photographs that celebrate your babies together, using carefully selected wraps, colours and newborn setups.
Depending on how both babies are settling, we may be able to create beautiful wrapped or gently posed photographs of them together.

Although twins share a very special connection, each baby has their own beautiful little features.
I also love capturing individual portraits so each baby has photographs celebrating them on their own.
Every Twin Session Is Baby-Led
With two newborn babies, there are naturally two different little personalities and sets of needs to consider.
One baby may be fast asleep while the other needs feeding, changing or cuddling.
That's completely normal.
I work gently around both babies, adapting the session to their comfort and how they're settling.
I never promise a particular pose, because the babies' safety and wellbeing always come first.

My South Auckland studio offers wrapped newborn photography with simple, timeless styling.
If you're considering a wrapped session for twins, we can discuss which collection and session format will suit them best.
Natural Family Photographs
Guided lifestyle newborn photography takes place in my South Auckland lifestyle studio.
This is a lovely option for families wanting relaxed cuddles, gentle interactions and natural photographs together.

Leaving the house with one newborn can feel like quite an adventure.
Leaving with two can involve even more planning!
This is one reason my in-home posed newborn sessions can be such a lovely choice for parents of twins.

You're in your own familiar environment, with feeding supplies, nappies, spare clothing and everything your babies need nearby.
There's no need to pack the car or organise a trip to the studio.

Can Parents & Older Siblings Be Included?
Yes. If you choose a newborn collection that includes family photographs, we can capture your twins with their parents and older siblings too.
These photographs are often some of the most meaningful images from the entire session.
Seeing two tiny babies together in their parents' arms is such a beautiful reminder of those very first weeks.
My Split Newborn Session Option
If you've recently welcomed twins, you may love the idea of having their individual and together photographs taken while they're still tiny, but feel less ready for family portraits yourself.
My Signature and Legacy In-Home Newborn Collections include the option to split your session.
First: I photograph your babies at home.
Then: We arrange parents, siblings and family photographs at my South Auckland studio, usually around 2–4 weeks later.
It's a lovely way to give Mum a little extra time after birth while still capturing those precious newborn details.
When Should Twin Newborn Photographs Be Taken?
For healthy full-term babies, traditional posed newborn photography is generally planned during the first 7–21 days.
However, twins sometimes arrive earlier than expected, and their photography session may need a different timeline.
Some twins are ready for photography during their first few weeks, while others need more time, particularly if they've been born prematurely.
What If Your Twins Arrive Early?
If your babies arrive prematurely or need time in NICU, please don't worry about trying to meet a photography deadline.
Their health and comfort are always the priority.
Once your babies are home and medically ready, we can discuss an appropriate photography session.
If either baby has ongoing medical needs, their healthcare team should guide when a session would be suitable.

I recommend booking your newborn photography during pregnancy, rather than waiting until your babies arrive.
You can use your estimated due date when making your initial booking.
Once your twins arrive, we'll discuss the appropriate session timing based on their needs and my availability.
Booking ahead is particularly helpful for twin families because it gives us time to discuss your preferred photography style and plan the session carefully.
