Why I Don’t Use AI to Create My Photos

With artificial intelligence becoming more common in photography, many people are starting to wonder how much of the image they see is actually real.

As an Auckland newborn and maternity photographer, I believe the most meaningful photographs are created through skill, experience, and genuine moments, not by having a computer generate them.

Real Photography Matters

When you book a photography session with me, the images you receive are photographs that I have personally created with my camera.

The lighting, posing, composition, camera settings, and editing are all completed by me.

I don’t use AI to generate fake backgrounds, create artificial scenery, replace people, or completely alter the reality of the image.

If I cannot create it myself through photography and traditional editing techniques, I simply won’t offer it.

My Editing Process

Every image is carefully edited using professional industry-standard software:

• Adobe Lightroom

• Adobe Photoshop

These tools allow me to enhance the images while keeping them natural and timeless.

During the editing process I may:

• Adjust exposure and colour

• Remove temporary blemishes

• Soften distractions

• Correct colour casts

• Refine skin tones

• Remove stray hairs

• Perform gentle body contouring when requested

These are all edits completed manually by me, image by image.

Why I Choose Not to Use AI Generated Images

Photography is an art form built on creativity, experience, and technical skill.

Over the last eight years, I have spent thousands of hours learning:

• Camera settings

• Lighting techniques

• Newborn posing

• Composition

• Colour grading

• Professional retouching

For me, the reward comes from creating beautiful images during the session itself rather than having artificial intelligence create something that never existed.

I want my clients to know that the photographs they receive are genuine representations of their family, pregnancy, or newborn baby.
