What If My Baby Won’t Sleep During Their Session?

One of the biggest worries new parents have before a newborn session is:

“What if my baby won’t sleep?”

The good news is this is completely normal, and there is no need to panic.

As an Auckland newborn photographer, I work with babies at all different stages and temperaments, and sessions are always adjusted around your baby’s needs.

Some Babies Need More Time

Every newborn is different.

Some babies fall asleep quickly, while others need:

  • extra feeding

  • rocking

  • soothing

  • settling time

That is why newborn sessions are intentionally flexible and baby-led.

Awake Photos Can Still Be Beautiful

Some of the most loved newborn images are actually awake photos.

Wide-eyed newborn portraits can create beautiful connection and personality within your gallery.

The Session Is Never Rushed

There is always time allowed for:

  • feeding

  • changing

  • comforting

  • settling

A calm environment is incredibly important during newborn photography.

Experience Matters

Working with newborns requires patience and experience.

Over the years, I have photographed many babies with different personalities, feeding patterns, and settling needs.

The most important thing is creating a calm experience for both baby and parents.
