When Should You Book Your Maternity Photographer?

Finding out you're expecting a baby is such an exciting time, and there's suddenly so much to organise before your little one arrives.

Maternity photography might not be the first thing on your list, but it's something I recommend planning earlier rather than later.

Ideally, I suggest booking your maternity photographer during your second trimester.

This gives you time to choose your preferred session date, explore your photography options and look forward to the experience without a last-minute rush.

The Ideal Booking Window

Why Book During Your Second Trimester?

Most maternity photographs are taken during the third trimester, but I recommend securing your booking before you reach that stage.

Booking ahead gives us more flexibility to plan your session around your pregnancy, family and preferred photography style.

Second Trimester My Recommended Time to Book

Ideally book during your second trimester, then plan your maternity photographs for approximately 30 to 34 weeks of pregnancy.

01 / AVAILABILITY

More Choice of Dates

Booking early gives you a better chance of securing a date that suits your family and schedule.

02 / PLANNING

Time to Prepare

We can discuss your preferred photography style, wardrobe and whether you'd like your family included.

03 / PEACE OF MIND

One Less Thing to Organise

With your session arranged, you can focus on the other preparations before your baby arrives.

Your Preferred Date

Why Does Availability Matter?

I take a limited number of photography sessions each week so every client receives the time and attention they deserve.

Weekend appointments are particularly limited, so if weekends are your only option, I recommend getting in touch early.

Booking Early Is Especially Helpful If...

  • You need a Saturday or weekend session.
  • Your partner has limited time off work.
  • You want your children included and need to work around their schedules.
  • You're hoping for a particular outdoor location or season.
  • You want to book maternity and newborn photography together.

The earlier we organise your booking, the easier it is to plan the experience around your needs.

Booking vs Photography

When Should the Actual Photoshoot Take Place?

There are two different dates to think about: when you reserve your session and when we actually photograph your bump.

FIRST / BOOKING

During Your Second Trimester

This is a lovely time to organise your photography and secure your preferred session date.

THEN / PHOTOGRAPHY

Around 30 to 34 Weeks

This is generally my preferred stage for maternity portraits, when your bump is beautifully rounded.

Choosing Your Experience

Should You Decide on Studio or Outdoor Photography First?

It's helpful to have an idea of the photographs you'd love before booking.

My maternity collections offer different session lengths, gown changes and photography options.

STUDIO MATERNITY

Elegant & Timeless

My private South Auckland studio is ideal for beautifully lit maternity portraits.

You can choose from my Mini, Classic and Deluxe collections, depending on how much variety you'd love.

STUDIO & OUTDOOR

Beautiful Natural Settings

My Deluxe Maternity Collection combines studio photography with a nearby outdoor location.

This is a lovely option if you'd like elegant studio portraits and natural outdoor photographs together.

You can explore all maternity collections and pricing on my Investment page .

Beautifully Prepared

Do You Need to Organise Your Outfits Before Booking?

Not at all!

One of the lovely things about booking your maternity photography with me is having access to my extensive maternity client wardrobe.

I have over 150 gowns, dresses and fabrics available, so there's no need to purchase special maternity outfits for your session.

I'll Help With the Styling

We'll choose gowns that suit your preferred colours, body shape and the overall look you'd love.

I'll also guide you through every pose, so you don't need any modelling experience.

If your partner or children are joining you, I can offer guidance on coordinating their outfits too.

You can read more in my guide to what to wear for maternity photographs .

Explore the Mini, Classic and Deluxe maternity collections and choose the experience that suits you best.

02

Select Your Date

Choose an available appointment that falls around your preferred stage of pregnancy.

03

Secure Your Booking

Complete your booking online with the required deposit. Then we can look forward to creating something beautiful together.

A little planning now means you can simply enjoy your session later.

One Beautiful Journey

Thinking About Newborn Photography Too?

If you're already planning your maternity photographs, it's also a wonderful time to think about newborn photography.

Booking both sessions together allows us to plan the experience around your pregnancy and your baby's expected arrival.

A Little Something Extra

When you book a maternity session together with my Signature or Legacy In-Home Newborn Collection, you'll receive $100 off your newborn collection.

Your maternity photographs celebrate the anticipation of meeting your baby, while your newborn session captures those precious first weeks together.

It's a beautiful way to document both chapters of your story.

A Final Little Reminder

What If You're Already in Your Third Trimester?

Please don't worry if you haven't organised your maternity photographs yet.

You're still very welcome to get in touch.

If I have a suitable appointment available before your due date, I'd love to photograph this special chapter for you.

It's always worth asking. Beautiful memories don't have to be planned perfectly.
